Welcome to the Web site for Desborough Sailing Club. Family-friendly sailing in a unique setting on the Thames..
Welcome to Desborough Sailing Club
Desborough SC is a dinghy sailing club with racing all year round. Based on the River Thames at Shepperton we also have an active section of sailing cruisers and dayboats. Some of our members like to bring their canoes, kayaks and paddleboards, barbecues and picnics to our family-friendly riverside club. If you’d like to know more about becoming a member please contact us or come and visit.
Some of our members are also part of Sunbury & Shepperton Skiff and Punting Club. We share the same facilities but operate separately, so if you'd like to know more about skiffing please click here to find SSPC.

Desborough Sailing Club
Pleasantly situated on the banks of the River Thames at Shepperton, Middlesex on a wide stretch of the river overlooked by Shepperton Manor, the club house is surrounded by broad lawns that run to the waters edge. The Club offers racing, family sailing and social events in a beautiful setting.
Sailing
Shepperton Reach is a long stretch of the River Thames which includes a sharp easterly bend and provides exciting sailing. It is possible to sail between Shepperton Lock and Walton Bridge unhindered by bridges or overhead cables. It has the advantage of being sheltered from much of the motor cruiser traffic from Weybridge to Walton-on-Thames which bypasses the Club down the Desborough Channel. The Channel also assists in minimising river currents after wet weather.
There is racing every Sunday from March to December, every Saturday from March to October and on Wednesday evenings as light permits. Leisure sailing is also strongly encouraged and the slipways are available at all times. A full programme of events is organised throughout the year including regattas, open days and open meetings for British Moth, National 12 and Handicap fleets.
Facilities
The modern club house has changing rooms and showers and the club room has a well stocked bar for drinks, tea, coffee and snacks. A covered veranda gives excellent views of the sailing. The dinghy park can accommodate 180 boats. Launching and recovery is easy from the gentle slipways and good landing stages make casting off simple under most conditions.
